About the painting: Escapade is the actual name of this type of rose.
During the time of year when roses are blooming, I will go by myself or make a day of it with my husband or a friend to enjoy the local rose gardens wherever I might be.
I have a large ‘library’ of photos from trips to our local favorite rose garden at Balboa Park in San Diego and others collected on trips to rose gardens in other states or places I might have visited as well as from our own large rose garden at a home we had at one time where we had well over 100 rose bushes.
Escapade is from that library of photographs. I often make the extra effort to identify the tags of the name of some of the roses that really catch my eye as I photograph them so I might remember them later. Escapade was from one that I had documented the tag!
In the studio, I usually have a number of photos of a certain rose or rose bush and I first create a study on paper or computer - usually both - of what I want to paint which is most often from multiple combined images.
