About this image : The original painting measures over 7.5 feet and is over 5 foot tall.  This was a commissioned 'Masterwork'  that was painted during the Centennial year of the park.  This image is the entire Masterwork as painted.  Other prints are available of select parts of this original painting as well.  

Balboa Park is recognized as one of the top 10 U.S. parks. It is a favorite 'go to' spot for me and was also a very favorite place for the collector who commissioned the original painting.   In the complete image you will see the landmark California Tower, the Bell Tower Dome, the Botanical Building, as well as the beautiful Lily Pond, the classic arched walkways and the Domes of the Casa del Prado building.  Look closely at the image and you will also find birds and butterflies that are native to the park and surrounding area.  

Working on this large painting during the centennial year celebration at the park  made it of extra special significance.   Even more so for me as  working consistently part time on this painting, it took me an entire year to complete along with many enjoyable trips to the park to photograph and check out everything from foliage to urns, fountains and architectural points on different domes, buildings and structures.   Sometimes even if you have a photograph of something to refer to, it is difficult to really tell what you are looking at unless you see it more up close and in person.  

 The fine detail of this large painting made it a test of patience as well as an artistic challenge. The majority of the detailed areas of this painting were painted using bushes sized 1, 0, 001, 002, 003 - and I went through quite a few of them!  dIt was also during the painting of this painting that I began wearing glasses regularly to paint!
