About the image: The original Balboa Park ~ Centennial Tribute painting is over 7.5 ft in width and over 5 ft tall. The original Masterwork features many of the signature landmarks of the park which include two of the most stand out and well known seen in this image - The California Tower and Dome - which are in a select portion of the original painting.

This is one of 3 different images that have been created from the original painting that took a year to complete.

This image features the California Tower and the beautifully tiled, ornate Dome which are both part of The California Building at the park that houses the San Diego Museum of Us, a Museum of Anthropology.

The California Tower is an icon of San Diego that can be seen for miles around. The Tower and Dome, as with many of the landmark structures in the park, were constructed for the 1915 Panama - California Exposition. The tower is said to be an architectural hybrid that combines different architectural styles from Gothic details to the Baroque.

In the foreground of this image is the paved bridge and walkway that goes over the famous Lily Pond where on any given day you’ll find families, couples and friends enjoying the park and coming and going from the Botanical Building that is to the right of the bridge.

It took many fun visits to the park to get reference photos of this area that didn't have too many people in them to work from.

When I first returned to the park and got my first in person look again at The California Tower - after finishing the large painting that had taken so long and so many hours to complete that year - I was overcome with emotion and couldn’t help but cry. I didn’t realize how MUCH of myself I had invested in completing the piece. I’ll never forget that moment.
