About the painting: Since living in Hawaii, orchids have been one of my favorites. I was really having a fun day when a friend of mine and I took the photo study I used years later to produce this painting.
It was a day that a best childhood friend of mine and I got together at her place in the LA, Beverly Hills area and we went early to the Farmers Market where we purchased all kinds of fruits and some beautiful orchids with the idea to have some creative fun setting up still life scenes and taking photos because she was taking a photography class.
At that time, my friend was already a very acknowledged and highly respected interior designer with her own large, growing brand / partnership - so her 'eye' made our project especially fun.
In this image- painted years after that day together, is was one of the potted orchids we had purchased. The cool dancing of the shadows behind the plant is accented with the interesting patterns in the background. Behind the potted orchid we had placed an old, collectible, rich in color and dark toned painting and had it simply leaning against the wall while resting on the table top.
My good friend passed away, way too early leaving a design legacy behind her and talented partners to carry on. I wish that we had spent more days together like that day.
