About the image: I particularly enjoy painting a large flower and the effective blending of colors one into another that are called for. This painting is also special to me for a number of reasons – but just speaking as to the blending of the beautiful colors - it is particularly stunning.
This is one of a number of paintings I painted as a result of a fun photo shoot with a life-time friend from childhood
I had gone to visit my friend from my home in San Diego area who then lived in Beverly Hills. We got up early to get to the popular LA Farmers Market. That day we purchased a number of orchids and all kinds of fruits with plans to return to her place and arrange and shoot some still life scenes for me to – maybe – paint, and for her to practice her photography for a fun class she was taking.
Orchids were one of her favorite flowers and after my years of living in Hawaii - one of my favorites too. This orchid was one of the orchids in a plant we purchased that day.
This multi- colored orchid was challenging to paint with its transition of colors, one into another. I used my friends photos from that day as a resource in the studio as I painted.
All the handful of paintings I have created from any of our times together are very special to me. My friend, who, I am so very proud of her accomplishments, became a renown interior design ‘name’ and left extremely successful businesses in the hands of talented and also well-known partners when she passed away too early.
*** Orchid can be purchased in the frame as seen in the photo or I can take it out of the frame. The cost of this custom framing is passed on to you very discounted and can not be duplicated. This frame, in particular, could not be duplicated as it is solid koa. We had framed this painting to hang in our home in Hawaii for a period of time. We have sold that property and it is time to let go of a favorite painting.
